"Never Ever Take My Soul"

"Never Ever Take My Soul"

Swimming the shallow ways or the deep water
First seconds of the game until the last quarter
At all times, I’ll do what I know I ought to
I’m tryna build something special, ain’t got no time for plotters
Now I ain’t never fit the mould
And I ain’t always had control
But now I built my own role
And they’ll never ever take my soul

Stepping fresh onto the scene, I ain’t have no money, but I had a dream.
And so kings and gold became apart the theme.
And so crowns and thrones became apart the scheme.
At first I wanted the big toys and shiny things.
I want the glitz and glamour and all the bling.
Of course, to get it, yo, I got to pull some strings,
But it won’t mean as much if I don’t get it clean.
I had some parts and moving pieces right on the team.
My A1 since Day 1 they made it seem,
Like they would help the most to get me to these rings,
Like they would help the most in building this regime.
Yo, it’s so funny, man how they made themselves appear,
Cuz’ all I hear from there is how they would be cheer;
But all I think back to them is that I was weird,
Cuz’ I ain’t put too much stock in the thoughts of peers.
And soon I learned these meanings of these words are smeared.
And in a sense, a lot of them are engineered.
And all that means is doing something they feared,
And what that meant was that I turned it up a gear,
And now I’m booming and zooming up in a different sphere.
And when I took off them same pieces disappeared.
I’m moving fast and pushing through all them tiers.
Now it’s the Big Daddy Drip show, check the premiere.

Thinking back to the memories,
And thinking back of what was thought of my tendencies,
And what I brought to the game with all my energies,
And how I chose to handles all of my enemies.
Time after time, I made myself into a royal.
They took a look and thought we not from the same soil.
And with the envy, I slid past like I was oil.
They got mad and cast me out like I was spoiled.
“You got it good, yo, you don’t know about the struggle”;
“You had it handed, man, you don’t know about the hustle”;
“You just in school, dawg, you don’t know about the juggle”;
When that’s foolish, I been through my share of troubles.
I had them pieces and fixed them up to make the puzzle.
I took them problems and silenced em’ all with them muzzles.
I know the feeling of those that went down the tunnel.
I played them seasons and been averaged them triple-doubles.
I got ‘em mad cuz’ I did it all with seeming ease.
In all honesty, none of that was close a breeze.
But ‘cuz my story was unique I must appease,
Or lose respect and lose in popularity.
Cuz’ I managed to get that instead of these,
Cuz’ I played it cool instead of felonies.
Now I must mail-in my melanin to Melanie?
My only response to those folks is “Child, please”.

They’ll never ever take my soul
And they’ll never ever take my soul
And they’ll never ever take my soul
And they’ll never ever take my soul
