"Crown Out The Mud"
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Strolling through my city, riding pretty in the Southwest,
Way before all the studying and taking tests,
Way before all the big moments and big fame,
Way before the suits and people knew my name,
I was the young, black boy living with my mama.
She was a hard-working woman tryin’ to make a dolla’.
But I had to raise myself up, I ain’t have a father.
I used that as fuel for me to make it farther.
The same ones that I was supposed to idolize,
The same ones that I was supposed to idolize,
the same ones that were so quick to criticize,
the same ones that look at me with rival eyes.
On the surface, all was good, and they wished me well.
Behind my back, they spoke ill, and hoped I failed.
For a while, I hoped different, I ignored the signs,
until he had me jumped and I read between the lines
A couple things that I thought and realized:
I was surrounded by serpents covered in disguise,
and it’s the ones most close with all the lies.
But I had 2 little bros that I had to show the way.
The world is ours, and best believe, we here to stay.
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
I used to be that dude that tried to get the clout.
Tried to follow the trends, always out and about.
Tried to fit in, I always stood out.
Tried to get it in, but all I got was the doubt.
I was an outsider, they ain’t want me around.
They treated me like a clown.
They kicked me when I was down.
I ain’t have no respect.
I was there taking the threats.
I was there taking the hits.
I was there taking the s***.
They tried to give me some stress, ‘cuz I wasn’t like the rest.
But I made my own success, and now they say I’m the best.
They missed me when I was gone.
I left to be all alone.
I left to find my zone.
I left to grow on my own.
And now I’m on my own.
And now I’ve got my throne.
From being the most hated, to being overrated, to the most celebrated,
Them memories ain’t faded.
But all the pain, I just ate it
That’s just my way as the greatest.
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
I’ve been sitting on top for a while now.
I’m loving it up here, I ain’t stoppin’ now.
I got my head in the clouds and I got my own lil style.
Got people questioning me, they should’ve checked the file.
Sometimes I wonder and ponder, sometimes I shouldn’t even bother.
But I got let y’all know, “Yo, I’m the Godfather”.
I spent my time teaching.
I spent my time preaching.
I spent my time leading.
And I helped my people succeed.
I did my job with my brothers.
I did my job with my mother.
I did my job with the others.
And I held it down like no other.
I played a major role, and I became a 'Nole.
I am the heart and soul, and I have yet to fold.
When I was President, I set them precedents.
When I was Humble King, I lead them all to the ring.
It all came with its stress,
This story ain’t like the rest.
I’ve always known I’ve been blessed,
but now it’s onto the next.
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Crown out the mud, baby
I got the crown out the mud, baby
Word to the Wise: We all come from royalty, but understand the crown don’t us, we make the crown. I see everybody has their spiritual crowns, but it’s time for us to display our real ones.
